The images from digital x-rays are tremendously helpful, but for some modern treatments, we need more than a flat, black-and-white picture. This is why we are pleased to be one of the first practices in our area to provide 3-D cone beam technology. You can think of it as a three-dimensional x-ray that allows our dentists to plan more precisely. This leads to much greater accuracy for essential procedures like implant placement and oral surgeries.
CBCT stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography and uses a special x-ray camera that passes data to a software package. This unique program assembles a 3-D facial reconstruction of your mouth, teeth, jaws, and parts of your skull and facial bones. We use this model to view your treatment area from any angle.
With this tool, the camera does the moving. You remain still while it circles all the way around your head. But the x-ray beam in this camera is conically shaped to capture a wider area as it goes down. The result is a complete cross-section of your head. This tool creates a more comprehensive view in one pass than dozens of conventional x-rays could produce, which means significantly less radiation exposure.
The Advanced Dentistry of Spring team will put this technology to work for you in many cases, including the following:
Because these images and reconstructions are digital, we can send them to specialists and help collaborate in the planning process so you can feel secure that our treatment outcomes will be the best modern technology can deliver.
